Dr. Jian-Zhong Liu is a professor of microbiology and the director of Institute of Synthetic Biology of Sun Yat-Sen University in China. He obtained his B.S. degree from South China University of Technology in 1986 and his Ph.D. degree from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2001. His research interests are microbial metabolic engineering and synthetic biology for overproduction of high value-added products, b-carotene, zeaxanthin and astaxanthin), terpenoid compounds, putrescine and aromatic compounds (shikimate, resveratrol, 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, L-DOPA, benzylisoquinoline alkaloid), etc; and comparative omics. He, as an author/co-author, has published more than 85 articles in various journals, having total citations of over 1000. </div>
