Case Report: Atypical Presentation of Intra-Articular Osteoid Osteoma in the Proximal Femur: A Difficult Diagnosis

Osteoid osteoma is among the commonest bone tumors, primarily affecting young subjects. Often localized in the diaphysis cortex of long bones, the disease has a well-described symptomatology and imagery of choice for diagnosis. When in a different location, the diagnosis is less evident. We describe a case herein of an intra-articular osteoid osteoma of the hip misdiagnosed as a femoro-acetabular impingement and treated by means of hip arthroscopy.

Research Article: Falls from Storey Buildings in Onitsha, South East Nigeria: A Single Center Experience

Background: falls from storey buildings are mainly accidental. The numerous storey buildings with or without adequate protective rails on their balconies are important risk factors for these falls. The falls are usually associated with severe injuries and many are life threatening. The aim of this report is to determine the scope of these injuries in the commercial city of Onitsha Southeast, Nigeria from a specialist hospital perspective.
Study design and setting: This is a retrospective study analyzing the medical records of all the patients with major injuries including falls from storey buildings seen in a level II surgical facility over a period of 8 years.
Results: a total of 24 patients fell from storey buildings and they consisted 1.3% of all the major injuries seen within the period under review. Majority of the patients were children aged 6-15 years, n=17(71%) and there was no gender predilection. Nineteen patients (79%) were accidental falls from the balconies of mainly 3rd floor and above, n=17(71%). All of the patients sustained fractures, majority involved the long bones n= 22 (92%) and were also multiple n=17(71%). Operative management was carried out on twenty nine fractures in sixteen patients (67%). Two patients (8%) who had head injuries in addition to their fractures died.
Conclusion: inadequate rail guards in the balconies of storey buildings is an avoidable health hazard. Home accidental fall injuries which result from this hazard though not very common could be serious and they can be avoided by strict adherence to the building plan..

Case Report: A Rare Case of Primary Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of The Bone in a Female Patient Addmited To Dubrovnik Hospital in 2013

Primary Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of The Bone (PLB) is rare entity [1,2,3]. Patients generaly present with localised bone pain, soft-tissue swelling or palpable mass. Pathological fracture of the proximal femur and humerus secondary to soft-tissue tumors is well documented in the literature. Lymphomas presenting primarly at these sites with pathological fracture is unusual. A review of the world literature shows that the incidence of the skeletal manifestations from NHL is less than 5%, and in all these cases, bony involvement was reported many years after presentation of the primary cancer. Histopathologically, PLB usually represents diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We report 56-year-old female patient case report of Primary non-Hodgkin's limphoma of proximal femur and proximal femur with pathological fracture and management. In january 2014. A 56-year-old woman was diagnosed with stage IV B primatry large-cell diffuse primary non-Hodgik's lymphoma. After one year of initial diagnostic procedures and chemotherapy with rituximab together with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, procarbazine, and prednisolone she achieved a total response.

Review Article: Analysis of the six-year operative treatment of proximal femoral fracture at the Dubrovnik County Hospital, Croatia

Within a period from January 2010 to January 2016, there were total of 920 surgically treated patients of Orthopaedy and Traumatology Department, Dubrovnik County Hospital, Croatia, which is a single acute hospital in Dubrovacko-neretvanska County where all patients with proximal femoral fracture are treated within the Orthopaedic-Traumatology Department. The aim of this retrospective study is to compare used implants according to type of the proximal femoral region fracture (femoral neck, pertrochanteric , subtrochanteric) and used osteosynthetic implant depending on the type of fracture. A new surgical techniques were used more commonly. Osteoporotic proximal femoral fractures stayed the major and growing problem in the geriatric traumatology and the traumatollogy in general as well.

Case Report: Recurrent Bilateral anterior Simultaneous Dislocation of The Shoulder Following Epileptic Seizures : A Rare Lesional Association

Bilateral dislocations of the shoulder are rare. Posterior bilateral dislocations are often associated with convulsive seizures of various origins, where as bilateral anterior dislocations are usually the result of a violent mechanism. We report a rare case of recurrent simultaneous anterior bilateral dislocation associated with epileptic seizures in a 31-year-old man. To the best of our knowledge, no similar cases have been reported in the literature.

The author reported an update of main deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis and pulmonary embolism risk factors after total knee arthroplasty, divided into mechanical and pharmacological were reported. The principal currently used drugs, their dosage, comparative risks and benefits are discussed.
