The antralpseudocyst originates from the accumulation of serous inflammatory exudate in the sinus membrane without a specific etiology, this cyst has not of age group or gender preference. Radiographically, it is associated with a soft dome-shaped radiopaque pattern. This case is about a male patient of 58 years of age, with increased volume in the malar and left genic region of smooth, fluctuating consistency, which crackles at the pressure. Intraorally with the corresponding increase in volume in the sac, without changes in the oral mucosa. The tomography showed a radiolucent lesion that occupies and destroys left jaw and orbital floor. Thus, complete enucleation of the lesion and reconstruction of adjacent structures were performed. Clinical and imaging follow-up was carried out without postoperative complications and 8 years free of injury. It is of vital importance a correct diagnosis to guide the treatment adequately, however it is not necessary to underestimate the behavior of benign lesions and described as non-invasive.

This in vitro study assessed the effect of 2% Chlorhexidine Digluconate (CHX) on immediate and six-month micro Shear Bond Strength (μSBS) of an etch-and-rinse adhesive to sound and eroded dentin. Forty bovine incisors were polished to obtain flat smooth dentin. Specimens were randomly allocated according to substrate (sound dentin and eroded dentin - 3x/day cola drink for 7 days) and treatment (control and CHX - 2% CHX for 60 s after acid etching). After adhesive (Prime & Bond NT, Dentsply) application, four resin composite restorations (Z250, 3M ESPE) were built up on each dentin surface, using the area delimitation technique. Half of the specimens were evaluated by μSBS test after 24 h of water storage, and the other half was evaluated six-month later. Data (MPa) were analyzed with 3-way repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc tests (a = 0.05). The μSBS values obtained for eroded dentin were lower than for sound dentin. Six-month of water storage resulted in significant reduction in bond strength for all groups. However, the decrease in μSBS values was lower when dentin surfaces were pre-treated with CHX, regardless of the substrate. In conclusion, the CHX pretreatment is not able to ensure the same effectiveness of the etch-and-rinse adhesive tested to eroded dentin that to sound dentin, but it minimizes the bonds degradation over time.

Research Article: CBCT Three-Dimensional Cephalometry of the Temporomandibular Joint in Post-Treatment Patients with Articular Pathology

The temporomandibular joint is a fundamental articulation for professionals performing orthodontic treatments. Different etiologic agents may alter hard and soft tissues. Treatment of TMJ pathologies through Electronic Mandibular Deprogramming, validated by surface electromyography, allows a muscle position to be used as a correct benchmark of the mandible to initiate an orthodontic treatment. Although these parameters offer better results and more stability, doubts about condyle position in the mandibular fossa always remained. The objective was to determine the three-dimensional condylar position in the mandibular fossa of post-treatment patients with TMJ disorders based on Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images.
CBCT images of 19 patients treated for TMJ pathologies were studied and analyzed through high-resolution image software (Dolphin Imaging 11.7) for diagnosis. A total of 38 articulations were analyzed through sagittal and coronal cephalograms. Results showed that, in the sagittal plane, the anteroposterior position of the condylar axis was in mesial relationship to the center of the mandibular fossa, while in the coronal plane, statistical evidence enabled validation of the condylar centric position. Cephalometry allowed determination of the three-dimensional condylar position in patients treated for articular pathology. The present study provides information that may be considered as a criterion to complement the orthodontic diagnosis.

A conglomerate of State Universities, a few State Lawmakers, our Dental School Deans, our State Dental Maintenance Organizations, several of our Dental Association Presidents, and last but not least, our Departments of Health Work Groups all continued to embrace some form of dental care to residents, citing a critical lack of adult patient access to dental care as the reason to create a midlevel dental provider.

Introduction: Impaction of maxillary canines is a frequently encountered clinical problem in orthodontic therapy. When a preventive approach fails, treatment involves surgical exposure of the impacted tooth, followed by orthodontic traction to guide and align it into the dental arch. The aim of the present report was to demonstrate by case reports of an adult patient with bilateral impacted maxillary canines treated with surgical exposure and orthodontic treatment.
Material and Methods: A 15year-old female with various degrees of bilateral palatal impaction of maxillary canines were managed by the described technique.
Results and Discussion: Autonomous eruption of the impacted canines after surgical uncovering was witnessed in all patients without the need for application of a vertical orthodontic force for their extrusion.
Conclusion: The described method of surgical uncovering and autonomous eruption created conditions for biological eruption of the palatally impacted canines into the oral cavity and facilitated considerably the subsequent orthodontic treatment for their proper alignment in the dental arch.
