I performed over 2500 surgical procedures as primary surgeon. Among these, about 400 liver
transplants (adult, pediatric, split and re-transplants) and over 150 kidney, pancreas, small
bowel or multivisceral transplants. I performed more than 200 major hepatobiliary procedures
(open, laparoscopic or robotic).
I pioneered the use of very old donors in liver transplantation (reporting the first series of
nonagenarian grafts), and the use of ex-situ machine perfusion and DCD donors in Italy.

I became expert in quality management systems, accreditation and performance evaluation in

Management Group of the University of Pisa Medical School Hospital.
