Biography:

Prof. Marianna Atanassova Murdjeva, is a Head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Medical University-Plovdiv, Bulgaria.  She is also a Rector of the same university. She has graduated medicine at the Higher Medical Institute in Plovdiv in 1985 and Master Degree in Health Management at the Medical University-Plovdiv, Faculty of Public Health, 2011.  She was a biomedical researcher at the NationalInstituteforMedicalResearch, MillHill, London, UK (1992-1995), with Leukaemia Research Fund fellowship on Molecular Immunology projects usingtransgenic mousemodelsand cell lines.

Prof Murdjeva is a member of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria (USB), Bulgarian Association for Clinical Immunology, Balkan Association of Immunological Societies (BAIS), Vice-Presidentof the Bulgarian Association of Clinical Microbiology (BAM), member of European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) and chief coordinator of the Expert Council in Immunology at the Ministry of Health in Bulgaria. She has more than 180 scientific publications, 572 citations and H-index 11. 

Research interests:

1. Clinical immunology – detection of autoantibodies and other immune biomarkers, immune deficiencies,  cytokine profile in immune-mediated diseases;

2. Clinical microbiology – mechanism of antimicrobial resistance, infectious immunity, rapid tests for syndromic diagnosis of infections
