ZHONG Jun is a Professor of Neurosurgery in Shanghai JiaoTong University, China. He once worked in Wayne State University (Detroit), the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and the University of Arkansas (Little Rock) as a neurosurgeon fellow in USA. Nowadays, He is the vice-chairmen, Dept. Neurosurgery, XinHua Hospital, Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine, Shanghai. Thanks to the Chinese population, Dr. Zhong and his colleagues have completed 14,000 cases of microvascular decompression (MVD) for treatment of patients with trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, glossopharyngeal neuralgia and hemimasticatory spasm, etc. Thereout, he’s put forward a “safe & easy” technical strategy for this functional operation. Also, he has proposed a novel hypothesis regarding the mechanism of the cranial nerve hyperexcitability disorders based on a series of experimental studies, for which he was awarded the international travel scholarship in the 81st AANS meeting in New Orleans, USA. Besides, led by Profs. Li and Zhong, the XinHua team took the lead in drafting consensuses of Chinese specialists regarding the diagnosis & treatment of trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spam after they published over 100 relevant papers and edited 4 books. It was also them who have established an international society named World Neurosurgical Federation of Cranial Nerve Disorders in Jan. 2017.
